NEW LOCATION: We love the chance to camp near water and found this gem in Big Sur called Heart of the Wild.  The drive is far, but well worth the trip, for the the chance to tintype on this beautiful group campsite.  It is recommended that all participants have working knowledge of manual camera settings, some darkroom experience is a bonus but not necessary.  If you haven't driven up California, here is a great opportunity!

We encourage participants to plan activities for non-workshop hours.  In the past, participants have gone hiking, bike riding or like to use the relaxing time to catch up on reading and writing. There is a swimmable pond - so don't forget your swimsuit! There are also nearby locations that we can visit if there are participants that are interested in exploring.  Beware that cell phone service is limited!

THE LOCATION

Getting to Heart of the Wild is an adventure in and of itself (think long windy, dusty backroads), but it's well worth it! This huge camp area is perfect for large groups and is at the edge of a large meadow ringed about by mountains. There is a large fresh water pond for swimming (the only swimmable pond in the Big Sur area), and redwood groves within walking distance on a loop trail on the property. Basic cooking utensils and dishes are available, with picnic tables and prep tables. Bundled firewood is for sale. Bring drinking water. Be aware that you are required to pack your trash out with you, so leave room for that in your planning. Great mixed oak and madrone firewood is $5 a bundle.
