WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Learn to develop Black + White film with standard darkroom film chemistry.  Utilize our DIY Darkroom so that you can process your film without the worry of materials, equipment or disposal!  This is an introductory course designed for participants with no prior film processing experience, but we welcome photographers of all levels to join us for the chance to have a fun afternoon of film developing and food.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Rizzhel Javier is an artist and educator from Southern California and the Founder of Bridge.  She is an advocate for arts education and uses Bridge as a vehicle to bring visual arts into the community. Rizzhel loves photography and her personal work exist in sculptural forms that explore memory, human interaction and relationships.  Her work is exhibited locally and she was recently nominated as Emerging Artist for the 2017 San Diego Art Prize.

Each participant will learn how to develop Black + White film in standard film chemistry.  Registered students have the choice to develop 2 - 35mm rolls or 2 - 120 roll.  Additional rolls can be developed with extra donation.  The workshop will start with group instruction, then participants will have individual studio time to process their own work.  A smartphone scanner will be made available to participants that wish to quickly digitize their film.

THE DIY DARKROOM

BRIDGE workshop Instructor, Rizzhel Javier, teaches classes in her home when she is not on-site at one of our various mobile workshops. The DIY Darkroom is small private workspace, that is not your typical industrial darkroom, but it can offer you some incite on how to integrate darkroom work in your own home.  The facility is equipped film developing equipment (plastic and metal), an 8-person darkroom and print finishing space.  Its a perfect place to meet other film-enthusiast!
